Live a little; Comfort a little; Cheer thyself a little. Orlando As You Like It (Act 2, Scene 6)
Our conceptual show this year is As You Like It, in its third iteration On the Green. Last seen opposite Hamlet in 2001, this
time around Shakespeare's pastoral comedy features puppets and Irish music. Set in the early 20th Century, just after the
Great War in England, the move from Court to the Forest of Arden opens up a world of possibilities for the characters that
were previously thought inaccessible. As You Like It is directed by Vincent Carlson-Brown, Interim Artistic Director,
Nebraska Shakespeare.
I am not what I am.' Iago Othello (Act 1, Scene 1).
Nebraska Shakespeare is pleased to welcome John Hardy back to Omaha to direct this year's Othello. Many of you might
have seen John in the park two years ago for Marcus in Titus Andronicus and Malvolio in Twelfth Night. Othello was
produced for Shakespeare on the Green in 1991 (with As You Like It, as a matter of fact) and in 2005, opposite Pericles.
John's historical Othello, set in a late 15th Century Ottoman Empire, recalls a Venetian flavor, as the psychological thriller
moves from stronghold Venice to outpost Cyprus.
In addition, the public is invited to our upcoming summer programs.
Join us for our Ninth Annual Wills Best Friend Costume Contest on Saturday, June 27, at 6:00 p.m. Our corporate
sponsor, Long Dog Fat Cat, and judges, will present gifts to the top winners. New this year, we have gone social. The
entries are now submitted online and finalists are voted by the public at www.nebraskashakespeare.com
Camp Shakespeare for youth ages 8 - 18. Two weeks June 22 - July 3. Campers will perform at 7:00 PM the last two
days of Shakespeare on the Green, July 3 & 5.
