Why is New York called The big apple?

The origin of this nickname goes back a twenties. In the slang of the black musicians of
jazz, the word apple was used as synonymous of city. This way, for example, they were
classifying the metropolises where they were touching in little apples only New York
received the title of Big Apple, because there were the most notable clubs of jazz, to
which a select public was coming. In the thirties a dance arose even with this name, in
