Seven Wonders of the Ancient World

1.The Statue of Zeus at Olympia This statue is dedicated to the god Zeus - the supreme god of the
ancient Greeks in whose honor were held the Olympic Games. Imagine for the moment - the ancient
Greeks stopped their wars in order to go to the Olympic Games, and athletes from the Near East and
Asia come to celebrate The Olympic Games and pray to supreme god Zeus.
2.Colossus of Rhodes - Greece The Colossus of Rhodes was a statue of the Greek Titan Helios in
280 BC. It is considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.
3.Mausoleum at Halicarnassus - Turkey The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is the tombstone of King
Mauzola which was 50 meters high and was located in the city of Bodrum on the Aegean islands. The
building was completed in 350 BC after the death of the king Mauzola and his sisters.
4.Temple of Artemis - Greece Temple of Artemis was Greek temple dedicated to the Hellenic goddess
of the hunt, Artemis. It was built around 550 BC. Today there are only few remains from the temple.
5.Hanging Gardens of Babylon - Iraq The Babylonian king Navukodonosor II have built the hanging
gardens of Babylon for his wife Semiramidu. Many of the mysteries who were connected with the
hanging gardens weren't discovered until the 20th century.
6. Great pyramids - Egypt The pyramids are the only buildings left from the all seven wonders. The
three large pyramids which are located in Giza: the Pyramid of Menkaure, the Pyramid of Khafre and
the Great Pyramid of Khufu. 7.Lighthouse of Alexandria - Egypt Lighthouse of Alexandria was built
between 300 and 280 BC on the Pharaoh's Island. He allowed the boats return in Alexandria. The
light of the lighthouse can be seen from a distance of 50 kilometers. The construction began Ptolemy I
Soter, and was completed after his death. The building was 117 meters high and on the bottom there
were 300 rooms.
