Course Name: Legal Environment of Business, Small Business Development Pathway
Course Description: Legal Environment of Business is the second course in the Small Business
Development Career Pathway. This course concentrates on the legal aspects of business
ownership and management. Legal issues will include contracts, sales, consumer law, agency
and employment law, personal and real property, risk management, environmental law, and
government effects on business. The impact of ethics on business operations will be studied.
International business principles are infused in the standards for Legal Environment of
Business. Mastery of these standards through project-based learning and leadership
development activities of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) will help prepare
students with a competitive edge for the global marketplace. Other two courses to complete the
seal are Business Essentials and Entrepreneurial Ventures.

Articulation Agreement: The Cartersville High School Business and Computer Science
department has an articulation agreement with Chattahoochee Technical College. An articulated
course is one that is observed by a post-secondary institution to be of the content covered at the
post-graduate level. A student must make an 85 or better in the class and pass an exemption
test in order to receive credit at the post-secondary institution.

Method of Evaluation:
The students grade will be based upon observation, , projects, group integration, and daily class
work. Each nine weeks grade and semester average will be determined by the following scale:

Internet use. Guidelines have been set by the Cartersville School Board regarding Internet Use and
will be followed in this course. The Internet policies are listed in the Cartersville High School Student
Handbook. Students that are found to not be in compliance of these policies will be dealt with according to
the discipline policies established in the Cartersville City Schools Discipline Trifold. Games, chat rooms,
social networking, checking mail, etc. is prohibited

Classroom Policies:
Make up work: Regular attendance is vital. If you are absent, it is imperative that you
check with me or another student to find out what youve missed. THIS IS YOUR
RESPONSIBILITY. You must have all work turned in within two days of being absent
(circumstances permitting).
The key to this class is PREPARATION, PREPARATION, and PREPARATION! You must work
regularly on this course. You cannot afford to get behind on assignments as what you learned last
week is necessary to understand and complete the assignments for this week. GROUP WORK IS
ALSO A REQUIRED PART OF THIS COURSE
Deadlines: Technology is not foolproof. Dont wait until the last minute to complete your
assignments. You assignments will be due regardless of any technical difficulties you may
experience, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to work through any problems. You
are responsible for getting me the work on time.
Conduct and Academic Honesty: Failure to comply with CHS policies will result in
disciplinary action.
