COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon satisfactory completion of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Utilize the basic of thermodynamic concepts to solve simple system in
hydrocarbon processes.
2. Understand the qualitative phase behavior of hydrocarbon fluids.
3. Estimate the physical properties of hydrocarbon fluids and understand
the product specifications.
4. Do simple dew point, bubble point, and flash calculations.

1. Introduction (week 1)
2. What is thermodynamic properties? Why we need ?(week 2)
3. P-V-T Data Correlations: Plots and meaning, Phase rule, Equation of
State (week 3 & 4)
4. Physical Properties of Hydrocarbon Fluids: Compressibility, density,
molecular refraction, viscosity, etc. (week 5 & 6)
5. Discussion / Workshop (week 7)
6. Mid-test (week 8)
7. Vapor-Liquid Behavior of Two-Phase Systems: dew points, bubble
points, flash calculation (week 9 & 10)
8. Computer calculation; Computer project assigned (week 11)
9. Discussion on the Project (week 12)
10. Water-Hydrocarbon system. (week 13 & 14)
11. Product Specifications: Gas and Liquid contracts, Reid vapor
pressure, etc (week 15)
