    Whythisopportunity?

    In20132014NEISDconductedaseriesofmeetingswiththecommunitycalledTransforming
    theFuture.Throughtheseriesofmeetings,thecommunityaskedthatstudentshavethe
    freedomtobringtheirowndevicestofullyparticipateintheiracademicexperience.

    Inordertobettergaugestudentslevelofaccesstotechnologyfromhome,NEISDadministered
    astateprovidedsurveyinthespringof2015toallstudents,grades312.Theresultsofthe
    surveyrevealed76%ofourstudentspersonallyownelectronicdevicesthatcouldbeallowed
    ontotheDistrictswirelessnetworkasawaytoenhancetheireducationalexperience.By
    empoweringlearnerswithmorechoicesregardingtheirlearningstylesandpreferences,NEISD
    acknowledgesthatlearningstylesarealsodiverse.Recognizingthisandallowingstudentsto
    choosethebestelectronicdeviceandapplication(s)mostsuitableforthemiskeytothe21st
    Centurylearner.

    WhatarethehardwareandsoftwareconsiderationsofparticipatinginBYOD?

    1. Whattypesofcomputingdevicesmaymychildbringtoschool?
    Studentsmayusecompatibledevicesthatfallintothefollowingcategories:(1)
    Laptops,(2)iPads,(3)Tablets,(4)Chromebooks,(5)Smartphones

    2. Howcanmychild'scomputingdeviceconnecttotheInternet?
    NEISDprovidesawirelessnetworkwhichstudentsmayconnecttowhileusing
    theirdevicesinthebuilding.Thiswillrequirethestudentdevicetoutilizethe
    currentInternetcontentfilterusedbyallNEISDdevices.

    3. Aretheresuggestedaccessories?
    Providingprotectivecasesand/orbagsishighlyrecommended,butnotrequired
