What are the benefits

and drawbacks of studying abroad? To what extent do you agree or
disagree with this statement?
Nowadays students have the opportunity to continue their education abroad, and
that is ever more common. While some people think that there are many benefits
from choosing university in foreign country, others however, disagree stating that
there are many disadvantages. In my opinion, positive aspects overcompensate
negative ones.
First of all, one of the major benefits of studying abroad is better education. For
example, someone who wants to study nuclear physics and comes from developing
country has better educational environment in developed countries. In this way,
individual can fully develop their potential and return to their homeland. On the
other hand, in many cases these students never come back to their country of
origin and opponents see this as a major drawback because of brain drain. In spite
of this issue, I think that it represents individuals decision and I also think that
number of immigrants staying after schooling is rather low.
Secondly, by going abroad they learn much about other cultures as well as foreign
languages. For instance, even a one semester programme may lead to substantial
progress in language abilities.
Moreover, student become aware of other cultures and social norms, hence prepare
themselves for the multicultural environment. My personal believe is that someone
may only benefit from studying abroad option as reasons stated above show.
However, opinion of opponents is that student population is the most vulnerable
one and according to them easily adopt some social patterns not inherent to their
motherland. By doing so, in their opinion, youngsters would lose touch with social
patterns in their homeland.
By way of conclusion, students should use that opportunity to improve their
education, language skills and to connect themselves to other cultures, and society
would benefit from these individuals in various forms, as I described.
