Pride Checklist: Not Yet Meets Exceeds Persistence
Pride Checklist: Not Yet Meets Exceeds Persistence
At our
school, PRIDE is our effort system. Students receive a separate grade for their persistence,
responsibility, independence, discipline, and enthusiasm. This effort grade determines what
students are eligible for honor role, not academic grades.
In my classes, students helped to create this PRIDE checklist. We talked about what makes a
student persistence, respectful, etc. and came up with the first trimester criteria we would use to
assess ourselves. Three times throughout the first trimester, students assess themselves and
identify one area that they will work to improve. I conference with students to determine what I
can do to help them make those improvements and we revisit them frequently.
I chose to include this checklist because I am NOT just a content teacher. If I can do one
thing for my students, it is to develop them into productive, effective, and enthusiastic individuals
who embrace and enjoy learning. This checklist, involving students in its creation, and reflection
opportunities truly help to make my students better people and students.
