COUNTY TO LAUNCH NEW ALERT TO HELP FIND


THOSE WITH ALZHEIMERS, OTHER IMPAIRMENTS
WHAT:

San Diego County officials will launch a new type of community alert to help find
seniors with Alzheimers disease and others who are reported missing and in
danger.
The Sheriffs Department and other local law enforcement agencies will be able
to directly notify the public via email and cell phone text message when a person
with dementia or other cognitive impairment, or with a developmental disability,
goes missing.
The Alzheimers Association estimates that six in 10 people with dementia will at
one point wander from their homes or when theyre out.

WHY:

About 60,000 local residents have Alzheimers or other types of dementia. That
number is expected to nearly double by 2030. It is the regions third leading
cause of death.
