World History/ Social Studies

Course Description: Sixth grade Social Studies is a study of the world from the beginnings of
human society to the emergence of the First Global Age (1450). This study will focus on
geography, history and cultural perspectives. In my class students will see themselves in the
global society, and discover age appropriate ways to contribute to the betterment of our society.

Grading Scale: A= 90-100, B= 80-89, C=70-79, D= 60-69, F= 59 or below
Grades will be determined by: Notebook Organization, Warm Ups, Assignments, and
Projects, Class Participation, Conduct and Test grades
Materials Needed:
* Composition Notebook just for Social Studies.
(The idea is that students will be responsible for an organized Social Studies
notebook that will chronicle classroom assignments and academic activities.
There will be systematic notebook checks throughout the school year)
*Pen or Pencil, colored pencils, sticky notes, and page protectors
*Agenda
What to do when you get to class:
When you walk into class there will be daily assignments written on the board. The first thing you
should do when you walk into class is READ THE BOARD. Warm-up assignments and resources for
completion will be on the board. Students are to sharpen pencils the FIRST 10 minutes of class.
There will be NO un-essential walking during instructional time. ALL work will be completed in
your notebook. Homework assignments and tests will be collected, but eventually stored in the
NB as a record of completion. Projects will be researched in class; most of the background
building will be done in class; however, final publishing will be done at home. Expect for projects
to be presented in class.
Make-up work/Late Work:
There will be folders on the bookcase at the back of the room. Each folder will contain extra
copies of assignments for students who are absent. If you are absent it is your responsibility to
check classroom TABLE OF CONTENTS in order to update your notebook.
Classroom Rules:
LISTEN while your teacher or other speakers speak.
Treat everyone kindly and with respect!
RAISE HAND BEFORE you speck or get up.
Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
Come to class prepared for success!

How to get an A in Mrs. Richardsons class:
Stay organized! (Keep assignments COMPLETE and in correct assignment order in
notebook)
Participate in classroom activities. This class is HIGHLY interactive. Students will be
graded on cooperative grouping strategies.
Use class time wisely.
Study for tests and quizzes
HAVE/MAINTAIN a positive attitude. Our goal is a productive SCHOLARLY environment.
