The students look at the image in their books which depicts planet Earth. It is an
image from outer space taken from the Apollo spaceship. What makes our planet so
unique?
The students brainstorm adjectives related to the image and write these words on
the white board. The words are written on two columns positive and negative
adjectives.

environmental organization. The text paints a grim picture of the way humans have
mistreated the planet. The text is read out loud and the unknown words are explained by
the teacher.

Activity 3
Comprehension

There are three questions in exercise 2c. which need answering. The students are
asked to work in pairs and try to find an answer which they then share with the class.
Possible answers would be that:
- human-like apes used tools and started building primitive living spaces and apelike humans discovered fire and used basic sounds for communication;
- humans have destroyed the crown jewel of our solar system;
- it shows how little time it has taken man to cause so much destruction to the
planet.

doing at certain moments in the past. They use the time expressions highlighted in the
text. They take turns to answer using the past continuous tense.
Eg. What were you doing one year ago? I was taking my driving exam.
Activity 5

The teacher shows the students a few posters of the Greenpeace organization
which have environmental message and a strong visual impact and the students say what
they find more interesting and meaningful.
Homework
