Based on todays protocol, what conclusions did you draw about the level of quality displayed in
the student work?
Generally high quality - Strong interdisciplinary connections, conceptual understanding
Higher order thinking strong in some areas: 1st grade physics displays, esp definitions growing from real
understanding, 8th grade Logical fallacies work, 4th grade use of mentor text fiction/fact blend
Some aspects of authenticity are strong: student voice, original creative thinking, formats from
professional world, connected to real world, local people and places
Some aspects of authenticity less strong: authentic (outside) audience
Craftsmanship- overall strong, lots of drafts, critique and revision, beauty
Possible pushes: varied art techniques/media, full publication
Based on todays protocol, what conclusions did you draw about the tasks and scoring tools that
teachers are designing?
Rubrics - simple rubrics (thumbs up/down) in early grades (developmentally appropriate), rubrics are not
just checklists - they have deeper aspects of quality in them.
Few rubrics are student-created
Habits expectations could be integrated more strongly
Task descriptions often did not mention audience
