SEPTEMBER 2015

INVESTING IN THE NEXT GENERATION

Brody Cornwell, 2015 Participant, Montana State University 2016
We believe that creating places of change doesnt just mean designing buildings in physical locations. It is also a change of
heart, mindset, and purpose. The Summer Studio is a six week initiative training young professionals in design, leadership,
and service, helping each participant to use architecture as a platform to demonstrate the love of Jesus.
Speakers from around the country came to share their wisdom: Rick Archer, Founding Principal at Overland Partners and
professor at UT Austin; Lis Cochrane, CEO of ACE Development Fund;
, Principal at in situ studio and professor
at NCSU College of Design; Stacie Burtelson, Professor of Architecture at Judson University; Kenneth Elzinga, Professor
of Economics at the University of Virginia; 100 Fold Studio staff and teachers within the Youth With A Mission organization.
The participants represented eleven architecture programs from Montana to England. With your partnership, we are making
an investment in the next generation of professionals to create places of change in individuals, communities, and nations.

Participants applied their education as

they developed a design/build project
from concept to completion. This
presented an opportunity to grow in
their creative and technical skills while
working collaboratively in a team.

LEADERSHIP
One-on-one mentorship, small groups,
lectures and group activities fostered
personal
development,
healthy
communication and interpersonal
skills. Participants were encouraged
to grow in leadership roles.

SERVICE
The program culminated in a service
project for the local community.
This year we designed and built a
concert pavilion in partnership with
the Westshore Visitors Bureau for the
community of Lakeside, Montana.

STUDIO UPDATES
CAMBODIA - The Morrisons have returned from YWAM Battambang. You can now
completed last week, and clay brick walls will soon shape homes where students and
missionaries can learn about Jesus and biblical principles to transform their nation and
Southeast Asia. 100 Fold Studio will send another team this fall.

AFRICA - John and Abby Hudson, Emily Fiedler, and Board Member Terry Elzinga
had a successful outreach to Nakuru, Kenya early this summer. 100 Fold partnered
with Kenyans, local British land owners and Hakima Ministries to design a master plan
for a 200 acre vocational school campus and missions center. Hakima is a Christian,
educational assistance program developing the next generation of Kenyan leaders.
STILLWATER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL - This school in Kalispell, Montana is scheduled
to open a new high school wing and lobby this fall. The addition allows Stillwater to
provide a Pre-K through 12th grade Christian-based education. With the guidance of
architect Ross Lackey, the project provides 100 Fold Studio Interns Jennifer Smith
and Tori Mansell with on-site experience towards their architecture license.

Your prayers and donations have changed the lives of young professionals and helped enrich communities.
Your continued partnership helps create places of change in lives around the world.
85% of our design costs are provided by donations from people like you. Please consider a donation or
becoming a recurring monthly, quarterly or annual donor. In Christ, we can make a difference.

FROM

TORI

Summer in Montana is exquisite. The long, warm days provide ample time to
spend time preparing for and running Summer Studio. It is such an exciting time
for everyone. My primary focus this summer has been the continuing construction
administration of Stillwater Christian School. I am amazed at the progress on-site
I get to witness each week. At this point, the project is nearly complete and I am
so grateful to have been a part of it. I have learned so much.
The highlight of my summer, however, has been Summer Studio. I have had the
on the participants, on the staff and on architecture as an industry. Summer Studio
is invaluable. Students from universities around the world come to the small town
of Lakeside, Montana to learn how to use their architectural and design skills to
serve others. This may appear small or remote, but after having seen the fruit of
two Summer Studio programs, I truly believe that we can fortify a movement and
change the face of architecture. I am beyond grateful for the relationships I have
built through Summer Studio and I am excited for the future of this program.
This fall, following the completion of Stillwater Christian School, I will be travelling
to Battambang, Cambodia for three months. There I will be helping with the
design and construction administration of the dormitories and cafeteria of the new
University of the Nations campus. I am very excited for the opportunity to work onsite in Cambodia and to experience the culture of the people I have been serving
long distance this past year.
Thank you so much for what you have contributed to the work that 100 Fold is doing
in Montana and around the world. I am so grateful for all of the encouragement
that I have received from you.
Thank you!
