Understanding Project

Project Mission
As a traveller, youve visited many places around the world. Now, its
time for you to be a space traveler and have a totally unforgettable
experience traveling through space. You and your friends will decide to
visit one of the planets in the solar system.
To prepare for this incredible journey, these are the things that need to
be done:
In addition, to have a clear picture of your plan, you are expected to
use ratio and proportion to create 3D scale models that reflect
the actual size and attributes of the earth and the planet you will visit.
*Your plan ideally includes certain situations from everyday life to
make it more meaningful for others. Keep your target audience in
mind: who will benefit from your project?
The question that needs to be answered at the end of your project is:
How can you express the magnitude of an object through the
use of math?

Understanding Project
a. What are my role and mission in this project?
Our role in this mission is to be a space traveller. Before we start this
journey, we need to know a few things, Decide one best way to get there
through research
Calculate speed, distance, and time to estimate how long it takes and to find
out how far away the planet is from earth
Use the properties of radical, exponent, and scientific notation to show how
large the planet is.
b. What is the name of my project?

Mission to ring planet

c. What is my project focus question?

How to know all the informations about saturn with math

skills
d. What is my hypothesis to project
focus question?
? What
is the longest time to
travel to saturn?
Searching informations about saturn requires math skills. For example,
saturns diameter is 58,232 km. Since the number is to big, we use scientific
form to make the number simple.
My hypothesis, the longest time to travel to saturn is 8 years.
e. What are my goals for the project?

Do
CALCULATION SHEET
A. Travel to planet
How far is the the planet from the earth?

Closest Distance from Earth to Saturn is: 1.2 billion km

Furthest distance from Earth to Saturn is 1.7 billion km

How will you get to the planet from the earth?

New Horizon Spacecraft

How fast is your spacecraft?

How long will your spacecraft take you to the planet?

50.000 KM/Hour
Distance:
1.275.000.000
Speed: 50.000 km/hour

Time: 1.275x109/50.000 = 10.625 days

= 10625/365 = 2.9 years = 2 years 11 month

Do
CALCULATION SHEET

*How does the travel make sense to you?

Horizon Spacecraft
Closest Distance: 1.2 km x 109
The speed used is 50,000 km/hr. It explains that it takes 2
years and 11 months to reach Saturn with the closesy
distance.
9
Furthest
Distance:
1.7
x
10
How long will it takes you to travel around the planet?

The speed used to travel to saturn is 50,000 km/hr. It

explains that, from the furthest distance, it takes 3.8 or 4
Circumference:years.
349.264 km
Speed: 50.000 km/hour

The travel make sense because the cassini spacecraft

Time: 349.264/50.000
took 8 years to reach saturn while horizon spacecraft take
around 3.8 years or 4 years to reach saturn. Horizon is
way more faster than Cassini.

Do
CALCULATION SHEET

How large is the planet compare to the earth?

Saturn has mass of 568,265,972695,159

Saturn has the diameter of 58,232 km

Earth has the mass of 5,973,600,000,000,000,000,000,000

B. Modelling planet
Earth has the diameter of 12,742 km

Do
CALCULATION SHEET

How do you figure out model size of the planet, the earth,
and the distance between them?

Scale: 1:6x10^8
Earth real size: 12,742 km = 1.2742x10^10
Model size = 1.2742x10^4 = 2 cm
How many times will you reduce the size of the planet and
Saturn real size:
120,536 km = 1.20536 = 20 cm
the earth for the models?

Mars = 12,104 km =1.2104x10^10 = 2 cm

Saturns actual size is: Diameter:

58,232 km

Circumference:

Earths actual size is: Diameter: 12,742

Circumference: 40,008

10

378,675km

Review

I will be able to express magnitude of Saturn by using scientific
