It was an afternoon in the summer of 1545. The Mary Rose was the second largest ship in the English navy and
had lots of heavy guns. A gentle wind had been blowing all day, but suddenly there was a storm. The wind filled
the sails and the Mary Rose leant over in the water. It leant further and further. Water poured in through the gun
holes and the ship capsized. Over 650 sailors and soldiers were drowned. The wreck of the Mary Rose was
discovered in 1971. Divers raised the ship and you can now see it in museum in Portsmouth.
