What Are We Learning?

Language Arts:
This week we will compare and contrast plots, characters, and settings using Venn Diagrams. We
will also focus on making inferences.
During word work we will continue Spalding spelling. They will learn all about the different sounds that
letters and letter combinations make and how to use those letter combinations to spell unfamiliar
words.
In writing we will continue to work through the writing process and focus on using complete sentences
(with a subject and predicate).
Math: We will begin telling time to the 5-minute increment. You can help your child by asking them
to tell the time on an analog clock. We will also focus on doubles +1,-1 (Ex: 7+8- I know it is 15
because 7+7=14.)
Social Studies: We will begin our government unit. We will discuss the branches/levels of
government, and their responsibilities.
Character Trait: The character trait of the month is respect. Talk with your child about how they can
show respect at school and at home.
We will take our first MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) math test Tuesday, September 22nd, from
