World History II

Merryman/Routten
Welcome to World History II, specifically, World History and Geography
from1500 to the present. This course enables students to explore the
historical development of people, places, places, and patterns of life
from 1500 A.D. to the Modern Era in terms of the impact on Western
civilization
The study of history rests on the knowledge of dates, names, places,
events, and ideas, historical understanding, however, requires students
to engage in historical thinking, to raise questions and show evidence
in support of their answers. Students engaged in historical thinking
draw upon chronological thinking, historical comprehension, historical
analysis and interpretation, historical research, and decision-making.
These skills are developed through the study of significant historical
substance from the era or society being studied (Virginia Department
of Education SOL guide). World History II is an SOL end of course,
therefore to successfully complete this course you will have to take and
pass the SOL test at the end of the year.
By working together, student, teacher, and parent, we will have a great
year and will successfully complete our task of covering some 500
years of World History!
