CONTOUR ATTACHMENT IN LATHE

SYNOPSIS

Our project deals with contour attachment, which is fixed in the tool post of
the lathe. Hence it is named as CONTOUR

ATTACHMENT IN LATHE.

But we know that a lathe is an universal machine, can be used for doing so
many metal cutting operations. With this idea ,we have planned to attach one
more accessory in order to increase the no of operations. By this project we
have tried to reduce the cost of production of a job.

NEED FOR CONCAVE ATTACHMENT;

In recent years, new fabrication techniques have been developed to satisfy
the technological demands. Moreover, emphasis is stressed on attachment
.Attachments are used in various field and machines. Depending upon the needs
to fulfilled and mode of operation. An attachment eliminates the purchasing of a
new unit, which serve the same purpose. For example, a lathe occupies a place
opposite to that of a milling machine, the ten machines mainly used to produce
cylindrical and plain surfaces respectively. By implementing an attachment to a
unit, the capacity of the unit can be increased which is very economical.

Working principle;

The contour turning attachment is fixed to the carriage of the lathe. The
compound rest that is locked solid is removed and the attachment is fixed on the
cross slide of the carriage with its axis parallel to the lathe bed. The work is
secured rigidly in a chuck. By the concave- convex movement is used to
produce contour profiles and round balls.
