Center # 1 Inferences

Materials needed:
6 pictures
1 three-column chart
Inferences writing rubric
Graphic organizer (draw one or use one of mine)

Directions:
1. From the center folder, grab a set of pictures and a three column chart.
They should all be held together by a paperclip. Everything you do for
this center is on your own paper. DO NOT WRITE ON THE PICTURES OR
3-COLUMN CHART THAT ARE IN THE FOLDER.
2. Find the 3-column chart, and create your own. Take a sheet of paper,
fold it lengthwise three times, and your paper should now have three
columns. Make yours look like the one in the center folder by filling in
the title of each column. Do the same thing on the back of the paper,
and then do this for two more sheets of paper. In the end, you should
have three pieces of paper folded with three columns and the titles
filled in.
3. Follow directions from the 3-column chart from the packet and
complete a chart for each of the six pictures.
4. When you have finished, choose your favorite one to write about. Be
sure you look at the rubric before writing to ensure you know what you
will be graded on. Also, be sure that you choose a graphic organizer to
use. You can draw your own or use one of mine.
5. Topic for the paper:
a. Choose a picture and write a narrative from the point of view of
the person in the picture. If there is more than one person in the
picture, choose one and write from their point of view. Use the
inferences you came up with to guide you. Describe your job,
how you feel, and anything else important to mention based on
your inferences from the pictures. Keep in mind your tone while
writing this paper (happy or sad). This should be a minimum of
five paragraphs.
6. Items are due by Thursday, September 17th. The following items
should be stapled together and turned in; they should also be stapled
in the same order mentioned below:
a. Three, 3-column lists, graphic organizer, essay, and the rubric.
