Planning A Transit Oriented City - A Case of Ravet, PCMC: Objective
Ravet, PCMC
OBJECTIVE:
The city of Pimpri-Chinchwad is situated northeast of Pune and is 160 km from Mumbai, the
capital of state of Maharashtra. The city has seen a high rate of population growth and
development in the recent past. Due to its proximity to Pune and its significance as an industrial
hub of the region, the city is expected to continue its growth in the future. Ravet, being one of
the towns with all the major regional connectivity including NH4, Old Mumbai-Pune highway,
Mumbai-Pune Expressway and Aundh-Ravet BRTS Corridor it has the potential to grow and
intake the estimated projected population.
As it is a Greenfield project, the objective of the research is to lead the development of the city,
transit oriented by following the ITDPs methodology on TOD principles.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
We are focusing employment, housing, community services and facilities in compact, vibrant
and accessible settlements in identified regional activity centers and along high-frequency public
transport corridors, including planned and future rail corridors; expecting the TOD score to be at
least 80 out of 100. By achieving this standard we would be creating a self-sufficient, healthy
city by reducing car dependence and transport-related greenhouse gas emissions, TOD plays
an important role in energy conservation, mitigation of climate change and air-quality
improvement. In addition to shaping mixed-use neighborhoods, TOD principles will also be
applied to the planning and design of major community services and facilities and institutions at
City level to increase their accessibility.
