Barefoot: Strategic Management Plan Part 1

1. Grovetown Middle School is located in Grovetown, GA. Grovetown is a small city in Augusta, GA and is
part of the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA). The school serves 6th 8th grade.
Grovetown Middle Schools Mission statement is Grovetown Middle School students will become
productive citizens by demonstrating respect and integrity as they actively participate in their educational
process.
Goals of Grovetown Middle School for AYP On our end of the year report, all grade levels and content areas
reported that their goals were to increase their achievement levels in each domain. All grades and contents
were successful in their goals, although the increase in some areas was not as high as desired.
Scholastic Standing Grovetown Middle did make AYP for the 2011-2012 school year. However, we did
become a focus school. Our achievement gaps between our lowest performing subgroup and our highest
performing subgroup was too large. Therefore, we must be placed as a focus school for the next three years
and put a plan in place to close this gap.
2. General description of media center: The media center at Grovetown Middle School consists of 8
computers. One computer is connected to a printer. There is a small periodical selection available to students.
It is situated in a sitting area that has two wooden couches and two chairs. There is a projected screen
available to teachers. Teachers will sometimes bring students in for presentations or to watch movies. There
is a section devoted to fiction and non-fiction. The fiction contains picture books, chapter books, some books
in other languages. The non-fiction books contain biographies, auto-biographies, etc. There is also a section
of reference for students, as well as a section of educational reference books for teachers. There is a media
room, filled with dvds and supplemental items. We have a copy room and the librarians office. The check
out desk is in the front of the library, next to the periodicals and sitting area. We have approximately 20
wooden tables with 4 wooden chairs per table, to be used for research, group work, etc.
3. School library mission statement: The media center serves a vital role in the instructional program. While
supporting the Columbia County School System curriculum, the GTMS media center provides resource
materials and activities to our students, staff, and community. The media center cultivates the love of reading
and the desire for lifelong learning for individual students, and facilitates the development and use of 21st
Century skills.
