Prerequisites: ECV 310: Public Health Engineering II

Objective
The objective of the course is to impart knowledge design of water and waste water conveyance and
treatment units
Expected Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. Describe waste water treatment and disposal methods for large communities
2. Describe sludge treatment and disposal methods
3. Describe waste water reclamation and re-use
4. Describe langmuir, Freundlich and BET Adsorption Isotherms,Apply of Granular Activated
Carbon (GAC) in water treatment
5. List and describe methods of solid waste collection and disposal
Course Description
Waste water treatment and disposal methods for large communities treatment; Characteristics and
design criteria for preliminary, primary, secondary, oxidation ponds, trickling filters, activated sludge
and . Sludge treatment and disposal; characteristics, treatment methods, disposal methods. Waste water
reclamation and re-use; re-use potential, applications, quality considerations. Adsorption: definition,
nature of adsorbent and adsorbate, adsorption equilibria, equilibrium batch adsorption. Langmuir,
Freundlich and BET Adsorption Isotherms. Application of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) in water
treatment. Solid waste collection and disposal; classification, properties, generation, collection systems,
