Research
Complete a visual research of self-portrait ideas you find inspiring. Turn in a print out of 20 thumbnail
images of ideas that incorporate a wide variety of compositions and media. You can simply drag and
drop images to a word document. Your images only need to be about 1-2 in sizeDO NOT WASTE
PAPER AND INK BY PRINTING 20 FULL PAGE IMAGES! Black and white is fineno need to use
color unless it will be helpful for you.
Due Tuesday, September 29 at the beginning of class. 20 points (all or nothing---no late work
accepted for points)
Be sure your name is on your paper. You will need to do this outside of class time. There are not
enough computers to support this work during class time.

Self Portrait Artworks

You will be required to create 20, yes 20 self-portraits
Due Monday, October 12 at the beginning of class. We will hang all of your works and critique.
Use 6x6 squares. Write your name on the back of ALL of your works. NO NAME=NO CREDIT
Each portrait should be done on a variety of paper and media. Try to experiment as much as
possible. Mix combinations of media you have never tried before. Each portrait should be unique but
still be you. 20 total portraits. (10 points each=total 200 points)
These self-portraits need to be primarily of your head. You can represent all or part of your head,
include a hand, parts of your face, distort your image, make exaggerated expressions, etc. Be
creative but also think about dynamic composition.
