HEART AS A PUMP

This mechanism occurs in both electro


physiologically and mechanically.
This both events occurs in a cyclic
manner is known as cardiac cycle.
The mechanical events summarized in
a form of a graph is known as
wiggers graph.
Basically heart consists of 2 pumps
lying side by side.

Right heart receiving blood from superior


venacavae and inferior venacavae in to
the pulmonary circulation which is lesser
circulation ( low pressure circulation).
Left heart receives blood from the 4
pulmonary veins and pumps to the aorta
( systemic or high pressure circulation).
But the 2 atria and 2 ventricles contract
simultaneously.

The phases of cardiac contraction is


known as systol and relaxation is
known as diastol.
