The answer is required to present a brief analysis of Volvos safety
philosophy, a detailed discussion on the efforts made by the company till
the late 1990s toward developing advanced safety systems in automobiles,
and an
examination of how these safety systems impacted Volvos
performance in terms of sales, profits etc.
The answer briefly discusses the efforts made by Volvo for developing
advanced safety systems in automobiles, beginning with safety glass
windshield with automatic windshield wipers in 1927 to inflatable curtain in
its S 80 model in 1999.
While the answer has many relevant points, it could have also indicated
how these various safety systems had impacted Volvos performance, so as
to make it more comprehensive.
Question (b)
The answer is required to cover a brief discussion on Volvos Safety Centre,
a detailed examination of various tests conducted at the VSC and an
evaluation of how useful these tests were in developing safety technologies.
The answer very briefly explains Volvo Safety Center, and examines the
tests conducted at the VSC, such as, computer simulation, component
testing and crash simulation.
While the answer has many relevant points, it could have discussed in
greater detail how useful these tests were in developing safety
technologies.
