THE ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY
1.0

PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (3 POSTS)

1.1

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED

Holder of PhD, a Masters Degree with at least a GPA of 4.0 and a minimum GPA
of 3.5 or its equivalent in the first degree in the fields of Law, Law and Shariah,
Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Education, Mass Communication, Kiswahili,
Business subjects and Education.

Must have a proven applicable working experience in research and consultancy of

at least ten years in the industry and have published at least fifteen peer reviewed
papers.

1.2

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Review methodology, content and quality of academic programmes.

Teach both undergraduate and post graduate students.

Designs and oversees construction of research equipments.

Assists students in building up their practical and research projects.

Conducts consultancy and community service jobs.

Prepares and publishes technical papers and books in relevant fields.

Formulates Academic policies and offer technical assistance to University Organs.

Supervise field practical, undergraduate special projects and Masters/PhD

theses/dissertations.

Performs any other duties as assigned by his/her supervisors.

2.0

SENIOR LECTURER (5 POSTS)

2.1

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED

Holder of PhD, a Masters Degree of at least of GPA of 4.0 and a minimum GPA
of 3.5 or equivalent in the first degree in the fields of Law, Law and Shariah,
Science subjects, Mass Communication, Kiswahili, Education, Business subjects
and Education.

In addition one must have experience of three years in a related field and have
peer reviewed publications.

2.2

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out lectures, conduct tutorials seminars and practicals for undergraduate
and post graduate students

Participates in Curriculum Development

Mentors junior staff in relevant matters

Participates in developing and managing various University activities

Carries any other duty assigned to him/her by his/her supervisors

3.0

LECTURER (5 POSTS)

3.1

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED

Holder of PhD, a Masters Degree of at least GPA 4.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.5
or its equivalent in the first degree in the fields of Education, Law, Law and
Shariah, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Mass Communication,
Kiswahili and Education.

3.2

Ability to teach, carryout research and community service.

Possession of advanced computer skills and application.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out lectures, conduct tutorials seminars and practicals for undergraduate
and post graduate programmes

Participates in Curriculum Development

Undertakes research and publish/disseminate results

Write teaching manuals and compendia

Supervises field practicals, undergraduate special projects and Masters

theses/dissertations

Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor

4.0

ASSISTANT LECTURER (5 POSTS)

4.1

QUALIFICATION AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTIES

Holders of Masters Degree of at least GPA 4.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 or its
equivalent in the first degree in the fields of Mass Communication, Law, Law and
Shariah, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Kiswahili, Business subjects,
History and Education.

Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.

Possession of knowledge in computer application packages.

4.2

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out lectures, conduct tutorials, seminars and practicals for undergraduate
and non-undergraduate programmes

Undertakes research and publish and disseminate results

Carries out consultancy and community services

Assists his seniors in all their academic responsibilities

Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor

5.0

TUTORIAL ASSISTANT (12 POSTS)

5.1

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED

Holder of Bachelors Degree of a minimum GPA 3.5 or its equivalent in the field
of Law, Law and Shariah, Mass Communication, Biology, Physics, Chemistry,
Mathematics and History.

5.2

Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.

Knowledge in computer application packages.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Undertakes induction course in pedagogic skills for those who had non

Understudies senior members, including attending lecturers and seminars, tutorials

and practicals training

Conducts tutorials, seminars and practicals

Assists in research, consultancy and out reach activities

Performs any other duties which may be assigned by the supervisor

GENERAL CONDITIONS
(a) We expect to receive applications from middle aged and young men and women.
However for the senior posts of Lecturer and above age should not be a problem. We
encourage even retired academicians to apply.
