Chapter 11: Unemployment Issues

Why Do We Waste Our Labor Resources?

The unemployment rate here in the Philippines is getting higher because of
the rapid increase of human population together with the slow growth of the
economy. It is becoming a major issue because it is the main reason behind
poverty. With such a great impact, unemployment is a key in measuring the state of
the economy.

Structural unemployment is a widespread happening in the country. There

are too many nursing graduates that those excess are working as call center agent,
far from what they have studied. It results from fundamental changes of supply and
demand of different sector in the society. High government spending, recession
and wasted labor resources are the effects of unemployment in the economy.

Being a medical technologist is about examining different bodily fluids of a

patient. Hospitals needs less of them compared to doctors who really take in charge
of the patient because of higher learning and degree. If there will be a mismatch,
for example, a nurse will be the one who will be analysing the specimen such as

blood and urine, the result would be inaccurate that can lead to false judgment that
can jeopardize the safety of the patient.
