Whip Expectations For Interns

Sign out:
7am - Night float to day team
4pm Day team to short call
7pm - Short call to night float
- At the start of your shift, TAKE COVERAGE of your patients on e-signout
- This is the only way to ensure you get credit for seeing your patients
Rounds:
- ALL interns are expected to be present at ALL rounds (unless discussed with senior)
*11 am - fam med rounds (resident room)
*Final time to be determined by senior residents
Progress Notes:
- Daily progress notes should be written prior to 11am rounds
- Brief event notes should be written for any significant events (RRT, acute change in vitals, falls, etc.)
H&P:
-Full H&P are completed for every admission
-Dictate ASAP (the sooner this happens, the sooner it will be available in powerchart to review for our team, specialists,
etc.)
-To dictate, call 302-733-4911 and follow prompts (work type #1 = H&P)
-At the end of dictation, write down the dictation number (be prepared, they say it very quickly)
Presentations (This is a general rule, each attending will let you know the style they prefer):
- Prepare patient presentations prior to rounds
- Review urgent cases, critical labs, and/or questions with seniors prior to rounds
- For new patients, give a thorough history, physical and assessment/plan.
- For established patients, give a SOAP note format. Give a one liner, acute overnight events, pertinent labs/imaging, PE,
thorough A/P

Discharge Process:
Depart Process in Powerchart (tab on top right)
-Diagnosis
-Med Rec (print or send rxs if needed)
-Follow up Care, Diet, Patient Education, Discharge Order
Centricity Clinical List Update
-Add new problems to problem list
-Add new medication to medication list
-Not required for Westside and Ward patients
Lectures:
- MANDATORY give pager to senior resident
- Thursday afternoons at Wilmington Hospital (usually 4N72A which is near 4N nurses station)
- Please make arrangements to have urgent patient care issues and discharges handled prior to lecture
