History

Founded in 1836 by New Yorker Martin Kimbell when it was just an open
prairie
Logan Square really started growing after the fire of 1871.
Since it was not touched during the fire, many people bought fairly priced
houses there.
Chicago annexed the city in 1889.
After WWI the city became booming for many immigrants from Europe.
Now the city is mainly hispanic.

Haas Park
Haas park with its fairly new
soccer field
Many people come here to play
soccer

Random Statue
No idea what this statue is because it did
not say anything on the statue and nothing
online about this statue in Logan Square
The only thing it says on the statue is do
not climb on it

Street Art
Logan Square had a lot of crazy street art
This was our combined favorite one.
You can see multiple different styles
when just walking around

Froots
Hands down the most interesting
thing we saw at Logan Square
Its fruit are for your house
Not only paintings

Felt Boutique
This is a womens boutique
It was named Chicagos next up and coming
shopping destination in Womens Wear Daily

Gaslight Coffee

This is one of the few non-franchise coffee shops

Its really a place for college people to hang out
It doesnt sell food only coffee

Gaslight Coffee
This is the one picture we got
to take inside the coffee shop before
we got the hint to get out
We think it's because we didnt
want coffee, only food.

Owen Alchemy

It makes healthy juices from nuts, fruits, plants, and
nut milks
It also makes cleanses and smoothies

Chirags Reflection
This trip taught me a lot about Chicago. Whenever I had thought about
Chicago, I would only think about the downtown bustling city. Not only this
but, I also learned many rules when shopping. Like dont take pictures in
shops if you didnt buy anything. The trip really sparked my curiosity of other
neighborhoods. If this neighborhood was so diverse, I would want to see
others too. I feel like it was not an authentic Chicago experience. It did not feel
like Chicago, it felt just like a small town. When I think of I think of the big city,
not such a small neighborhood even though the experience was good.

Mandis Reflection
I really enjoyed visiting Logan Square. Ive never been to that part of Chicago
so it was nice to experience something new. The neighborhoods in Chicago
are all so different and it this trip really opened my eyes to that. I enjoyed the
Spanish influence that this neighborhood had to offer because of my latino
backround. There are tons of spanish restaurants and small shops. I really
enjoyed just walking around and seeing what there was to do. It wasnt super
crowded or busy either. I hope to visit there again in the near future!

Madelines Reflection
I thought this was a really cool experience to explore an area of Chicago that I
ve never even heard of before. Going to Logan Square made me want to learn
more about its history because there was a lot of Spanish influence in the
area, and I wanted to know why. I also learned that, even though I grew up in
the Chicagoland area, theres more to Chicago than Ive ever thought before. I
didnt think this was an authentic Chicago experience because the culture in
Logan Square in different than the culture that is known to Chicago.

Group Reflection
Going to Logan Square as a group was so much fun! Although the three of us
didnt know each other too well before the trip, we were really able to come
together and learn more about a neighborhood that none of us have been to
before. Visiting the different shops and restaurants together allowed us to
learn more about Logan Square but also share our ideas on how we felt about
the neighborhood. I think we all really enjoyed the experience of learning
more about the history of Logan Square and what is has to offer!
