Growing up in a family of teachers, education was embedded into my

everyday activities and set as top priority. My sister began teaching me at a very
young age. I followed her lead in school and set higher expectations for myself. As I
grew physically, emotionally, and spiritually, I also grew intellectually. Over the
years, I developed a passion for helping to advance peoples opportunities while
also capitalizing on their strengths. I have come to the conclusion that no matter
the age of the individual, they can learn. They may require motivation, guided
learning, modification of the lesson or task, or simply clear and concise direction,
but they have what it takes to become effective leaders.
Effective teachers are leaders, having a plan and purpose for everything they
do. They establish clear, high, yet realistic expectations at the beginning and follow
them consistently throughout the school year.
Todd Whitaker said, Great teachers create a positive atmosphere in the classroom
and in their schools.
By filtering out negatives, they work to motivate their students through
building positive relationships with students, parents, administration, and their
communities. They also work hard to keep those relationships in good rapport. Most
importantly, great teachers care about their students, seeing them as individuals
first and students second. It is important to create an atmosphere where every
student feels safe and has a voice. In such an environment, true learning will take
place.
The aforementioned will be evident in my classroom. Students will embark on
new and exciting adventures of learning. Various teaching strategies will be
implemented in my classroom such as small groups, literacy centers, visual aids,
manipulatives, books, technology, and activities that engage students.
Small groups will be used to assist students with reading (Guided Reading).
Literacy Centers will be filled with manipulatives, books, and visual aids. They will
be used to encourage dramatic play where students can act out real life events, use
cognitive skills, and motor skills. Visual Aids will be used to increase attentiveness
and enhance students understanding of the lesson being taught. Technology will be
incorporated into most lessons in order to accommodate the needs of the 21 st
Century learner.
I am confident I have what it takes to become an effective educator. While my
passion drives me to do whatever it takes, my love for learning keeps me
motivated. Setting high expectations pushes me to strive for better and keep me
concerned about students progress. My resilience makes me adaptable to any
situation, and my creativity allows room for endless possibilities. Together, I believe
these characteristics will support my personal and professional development as an
aspiring educator and for years to come.
