Cape Verde
There are so many countries I could have chosen to research; however, I have always
been interested in visiting Cape Verde. There are so many countries that I am interested in. My
first thought was to do Africa, but I thought of my mothers roots in Cape Verde and decided to
do research.

GOVERNMENT
Cape Verde was founded by the Portugal in 1465 and it was colonized. So
then it was mixed with African and Portugal roots. In 1961 Cape Verde declared
independence for there country. After that it was a republic country
In a note sent on November 27, 2013 the Embassy of Cape Verde requested that the
United States Government change the name of the country from Cape Verde to
Cabo Verde. The name was approved the change was on December 9, 2013.

LOCATION:
In Africa on the coast of Senegal to the west.
CURRENCY:
The currency of Cape Verde is the Cabo Verde . Coins come in
denominations from 1 to 200 escudos and bills from 200 to 5000. The 1000 bill is
commonly called the conto. One euro is equal to 110.265

Cape Verde has 10 islands Fogo , Santiago, Brava, Boa Vista , Sal, Sao
Nicolau , Maio ,Sao Vicente, Santa Luzia , and Sao Antoa

FAMOUS LANDMARKS:
The most famous landmarks are the Pica do Fogo which is a volcano and
the Cape Verde Safari.

FLAGThe flag is blue and red and has 10 stars that represents the 10 islands
POPULATION:
The population is 498,897.
LANGUAGE:
The main languages are Portuguese and Creole .
CULTURE (style of dress/religion):
Religion in Cape Verde is mainly Roman Catholic . With relationships you
would usually not see a marriage you will see a women moving in with her
boyfriend . Women get more attention than man because the labor of work and a
child is an idol to them . They are more advanced than West Africa with medicine
but not to advanced . They treasure meals and dancing and are a very friendly
country.

FOOD:
The food in Cape Verde is mostly hearty meals with beans and rice and
pork . These dishes are famous for their spices and meat.
