    In the Spanish language every noun is given an article that helps explain the gender - masculine or feminine or the number singular or plural. The definite articles are EL, LA and LOS , LAS.
    It is does not mean girl and boy as in English, it just refers to how it will be used within Spanish grammar. The
    gender does not always match what you would assume. For example, el vestido is masculine but it means dress
    in English. El escritorio is a desk and considered masculine but it does not look a guy.
    Do not forget to memorize the articles whenever you are introduced to a new vocabulary word. Make sure the
    articles and the spelling match in all four ways masculine or feminine, singular or plural
