MISSION CONCEPT AND ROLE

OF ATV
The International Space Station depends
on regular deliveries of experiment
equipment and spare parts, as well as food,
air and water for its permanent crew.
Intelligent and powerful
Racks and tanks
Altitude boost

ROLE OF ATV

ATV CARGO CAPACITY

An ATV could carry more than 6.6 tonnes
of wet and dry cargo. In addition, ATV
carries about 2.5 tonnes of fuel for its own
use, for rendezvous and docking with the
international space station, performing
manoeuvres on the way, and de orbiting at
the end of the mission. Two types of cargo :
1. Wet cargo 2. Dry cargo.

ADVANTAGES OF ATV
ATVs are intended to be launched every 17

months in order to resupply the

International Space Station.They
useGPSand a star tracker to automatically
rendezvous with the Space Station. At a
distance of 249 m, the ATV computers use
video meter and telegoniometer data for
final approach and docking manoeuvres.
The actual docking toZvezdais fully
automatic. If there are any last-minute
problems, a pre-programmed sequence of
anti-collision manoeuvres, fully
independent of the main navigation
