Switch on the indicator. For stability of the reading the indicator must be switch on
10 minutes before taking readings.
Place a load hanger at the location where the load is to be applied.
Note the indicator reading. If it is not zero press the tare button.
Place a load on the load hanger.
Record the indicator reading. This represents the horizontal reaction of the pinned
support.
Increase the load on the load hanger and record the horizontal reaction.
Repeat step 6 for another 4 load increments.
Tabulate your result.

Draw the shape of the portal frame under test and give important dimensions.
Indicate the position where the frame is loaded.
Using the data in the Table above, draw the graph of experimental horizontal reaction
at the roller support verses the applied load, preferably use EXCEL Spreadsheet to
plot the graph. Add liner trend curve through the plotted points and display trend
equation on the chart. The slope of the trend equation represents the horizontal
reaction per unit load.

From the result of this experiment, deduce the relationship between load and
displacement at the roller.
If brass were used how does this effect the displacement. Give your result in terms of
% increase or decrease.
Describe briefly the effect of load position on the reaction at roller.
Comment on the accuracy of the experimental results.
Lis the probable factors that effects the accuracy of the result and steps to be taken to
overcome it.
