Introduction to built environment, functions & performance


of buildings, elements, forms & structures of buildings
Provision of basic environmental envelope, the substructure & super structure, the building enclosure in terms
of external walls, windows, roof and ground floor
construction forms
Different ground conditions & their effect on building forms
The effect of weather on buildings and vice versa
Setting out & leveling for building construction
Building foundations and selection factors, the effects of
foundation on building performance
Construction of basements in buildings
Water proofing in buildings
Introduction to framed structures- steel, reinforced
concrete, pre cast concrete, timber etc.
Internal building elements; walls, ground & upper floors,
ceilings & stairs
Roof structures & covering
Supporting structures in building construction scaffolding,
formwork, shoring etc.
Partitions in buildings
Building finishes- plastering, tiling, painting etc.
