Yo..

Gonna show you how to do calculations

Part III, 1. Calculation of Molarity:
1.
5C2O42-(aq) + 2MnO4-(aq) + 16H+(aq) 2Mn2+(aq) + 8H2O(l) + 10CO2(g)
Run #1
0.0950g C2O42- . 1mol C2O42- . 2mol MnO4- = 0.004317mol MnO4- = 0.02727M MnO488.02g C2O42- 5mol C2O420.01583 L

Using balanced equation.. calculate the molarity of MnO 4-. You start by using the
given mass of your oxalic acid (you took notes on that).. Then you convert that into
moles.. then using mole to mole ratio.. You convert that into MnO 4- once you get
moles of MnO4-, you divide by the L (you took notes on that) you used to titrate it.
That will give you molarity.. I already did it for you for the first run.. just do that for
the 2nd and 3rd run. (Or you can just copy and paste and just change numbers and
put it into your calculator haha)
Part IV, Calculation of Percent Ferrous Ion:
5Fe2+(aq) + MnO4-(aq) + 8H+(aq) Mn2+(aq) + 4H2O(l) + 5Fe3+(aq)
#1
23.55mL MnO4- . 0.02650molMnO4- . 5mol Fe2+ . 55.85g Fe2+ = 0.17427g . 100 =
17.56% Fe2+
1000mL
1mol MnO 4- 1mol Fe2+
0.9925g
Using balanced equation.. your going to calculate the amount of grams of Fe 2+. First
you start with the amount of mL you titrated with (you took notes on that). Then
your going to convert that using the average molarity (found in part III of the lab),
and then your going to use the mole to mole ratio, and then your going to end up
with g of Fe2+. Once you get grams of Fe 2+, your going to divide by the grams you
had at the beginning of the expirement (you took notes on that) and that will give
you the percent of Iron. The 1st one is done, Do that exact same calculations but
different numbers for 2nd and 3rd run.
Part V, Calculation of Percent Oxalate Ion
5C2O42-(aq) + 2MnO4-(aq) + 16H+(aq) 2Mn2+(aq) + 8H2O(l) + 10CO2(g)
#1
23.25mLMnO4- . 0.02650molMnO4- . 5molC2O42- . 88.02gC2O42- = 0.1356g .
100=67.38% MnO41000mL
2mol MnO 4- 1mol C2O420.2012g
This is the exact same way to calculate Part IV.. the only thing different is the
balanced equation and the numbers in your calculations. The 1 st one has been done
for you, Do the exact same calculations but different numbers for 2 nd and 3rd run.
