Grade 7/8 Language Arts 2007-8 Course Outline

Course Description

The aim of language arts is to enable each student to understand and


appreciate language, and to use it confidently and competently in a variety of
situations for communication, personal satisfaction and learning. Students
will listen, speak, read, write, view and represent to:
• Explore thoughts, ideas, experiences & feelings.
• Comprehend and respond personally and critically to oral, print &
other media texts.
• Manage ideas & information.
• Enhance the clarity and artistry of communication.
• Respect, support and collaborate with others.

Equipment:

• Pen, pencil, eraser, binder, duotang, USB stick

Topics:

The timeline is a guideline for each topic. Each topic listed may be
completed in a different chronological order.

Writing & Grammar: Unit Narrative 8 weeks
A (Storytelling)
Novel Study A: TBA TBA 6 weeks
Film Study Description 5 weeks
Writing Unit B: Banded Exposition 6 weeks

Assessment For Learning:

Students will receive a variety of tasks in each theme. Examples include:


Oral presentations, Multimedia projects, journaling, essays, vocabulary…etc.

Daily Reading:

It is required to have a personal reading everyday for LA and school wide


reading for after lunch. Students are also encouraged to read at home for
15 minutes a night. That includes a novel, the newspaper or magazines.

Absences

If you away from school or anticipate being away it is your responsibility to


catch up on the work missed.

Exams

You will have a FINAL exam in June on the entire year’s worth of work. Do
not throw out any of your work when a topic is completed. You will use your
work for revision.
