TOPIC/FOCUS: THE LITURGICAL YEAR

At Pathway 1 Level 8, students recall most of the main ideas, objects and details presented with a topic in the language... Students participate effectively in
interactions such as role-plays and conversations on simple topics. They create simple original text for specific audiences and purposes in print and electronic
form. They write paragraphs and linked sequences, using appropriate script and language related to the topic.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES (INCLUDE LINK TO AusVELS):
The students will be able to:

Understand and use the language other than English within the world of teenage experience, on topics related to general interest and the world of
learning
Exchange and express their opinions, feelings/or views both orally and in written form in the target language
Adapt the language they use to suit the communication context, and practise managing shifts of topic and speaker
Communicate by referring to models and responding to prompting

INDICATOR(S)
The students will achieve this by:

Revising some of the key concepts learned in the previous lessons related to the Churchs liturgical year, its seasons and the colours, symbols and feasts
associated with it
Making a clear distinction between solemnities, feasts and memorials in the life of the Church
Viewing a video for children that describes more clearly and more simplistically the significance of the Churchs calendar
Participating in an online or worksheet activity

- Start off with recapping last


lessons material by asking-who
can tell me what the liturgical year
is, what does it mean?, who
remembers the seasons and the
colours and symbols we have to
represent them?, what do each of
these colours and symbols mean?
I will write some of these answers
on the board in the form of a
brainstormed mind map.
-Once this is done, I will use the
interactive whiteboard to go through
a powerpoint I had prepared on
Church symbols

- We will then view a video which


will discuss some of the key
symbols related to the Churchs

- After this, the students will

through a worksheet on symbols
where they will be able to match
names and meanings to better
understand the significance of
these to Church ritual
- The students will again gather as
a collective as I discuss the
significance of feasts, solemnities
and memorials in the life of the
Church. The students will have an
opportunity to share experiences
and thoughts and upon conclusion
of this, will be able to distinguish
between the three

Working cooperatively in a
group, helping or correcting
each others mistakes and
preparing a role-play to
present to the class

- Upon completion of this, I will give


the students an opportunity to
interact in a different way with their
learning by allowing them to play
some interactive games related to
this topic online @
languagesonline.com.au (whilst
theyre doing this I will walk around
and observe them).
