A Brief History

The Wicker Park District has been a


part of Chicago since it became a city
in 1837.
Wicker Park industrial significance
originated in 1857 with the Rolling
Mill Steel Works
Other important industries in the
district included clothing, furniture,
musical instruments, cigar
manufacturers and breweries.

Population: 26,154 Area:0.958 square miles
Median Household Income:$81,672
Median Age: Males:31.8 Females:30.8
Average Household Size:2.1 people
Percentage of foreign born residents: 9.3%

A local landmark home to every imaginable art
form including visual art, tattoo artists,
costume design, filmmaking and more!

The building is open to the public day and

night.

The first Friday of every month artists

open their personal studios to an enormous


party centered around the creation of art.

Music and nightlife are huge parts of the social


structure in Wicker Park and Subterranean is
one of the most popular clubs for new up-andcoming acts to perform. Many of their
performances are available to everyone 17 and
older!

Visiting Wicker Park greatly enhanced our knowledge


of Chicagos artistic culture. Wicker Park is a
very expressive district of Chicago, in such it
creates an atmosphere of acceptance, community, and
progression. Wicker Parks eclectic nature appeals
to college students who are seeking to express
themselves through the love of the arts.
