LESSON 3.

01: A Journey Through Change and Time

(There are 5 steps to this assignment, be sure to complete all 5)

Step 1: Decide what book you are going to read. You get to choose from 6
different novels:
The Giver by Lois Lowry
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
The Old Man and the Sea by Earnest Hemingway
The Watson’s Go to Birmingham-1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis
Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse
The Last Book in the Universe by Rodman Philbrick

***If you look at the bottom of my announcement page, you’ll see a Virtual Bookshelf
that has all the books sitting on it. Click on the novel you are interested in reading and
you can read all about it right there.

Step 2: Write a paragraph (four to six sentences) explaining why you choose
your book.

Step 3: Post your paragraph about what novel you are going to read and why
you chose to read it to the module 3 Discussion group.

Here are some steps to help you post your answers:

1. Click on the discussion/group button on the left of your screen.
2. Click on module one.
3. Scroll to the bottom and click on New Message.
4. Copy and paste your answers there.

Step 4: Show the paragraph you have written about your book to your parent
or guardian, and have them email me, stating that you have permission to read
the book and that your parent has read your paragraph describing why you chose
it. You will not receive full credit for this lesson unless your parent sends an
email.

Step 5: Answer the following 5 questions using COMPLETE sentences.

1. Which pace have you chosen for the course?
2. What is your expected completion date for the course?
3. What is your expected completion date for Module 3?
4. Are you on pace at this time? If not, describe your plan for catching up
on your work.
5. Name five students whose recommendations helped you decide which
novel to read.
