THE GENERATION OF

COMPUTERS
Michael Barahona

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS

A computer is a machine which helps us to calculate, simulate

and store different scenarios.
Using computers we can simulate other things over which we
do not have any control, for example weather, behavior of
atomic bomb, behavior of a deadly virus, Earthquake, a
innovative design for a new auto, airplane, machine, etc.

CHARLES BABBAGE

Charles Babbage was born in London Dec. 26, 1791.

In Babbage's times there was a really high error rate
in the calculation of math tables,
Babbages plan was to find a new method that could
be used to make it mechanically, removing the
human error factor.

1940-1950 VACUUM TUBES

Computers used:
Vacuum tubes
Magnetic drums
Computers were:
Large
Expensive
Energy Consuming
Because of this computers were not bought and sold regularly, and they usually
only belonged to scientists.

1956-1963 TRANSISTORS
Computers Used:
Transistor Tubes
Computers Were:
Smaller
Faster
Cheaper
More energy efficient
Still generating a lot of heat
Even though Computers were better than before they still werent as fast and
common as they are today.

1964-1971 INTEGRATED CIRCUITS

Computers Used
Silicon Chips
Semi Conductors
Integrated circuits
Computers were:
Faster
Producing less heat.

Computers were now bought by rich people and were cheaper than they were
before.

1971-PRESENT DAY
MICROPROCESSORS
Computers use:
Micro processors
Computers are:
Small enough to fit in your hand
A lot faster than before
Cheaper
Almost producing no heat
Computers are now bought and sold by almost everyone, the technology for
computers is now used in different, smaller devices.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Artificial intelligence includes:

Voice Recognition
Quantum computation
Nano technology

WEB SATELLITES

The first Web satellite, sputnink 1, was launched on

October, 1957 by the Soviet Union.

The first commercial communications Satellite,

Telsar 1, was launched on july, 1962 and was built
be bell labs.

Web Satellites allow us to access the internet and

communicate with people all over the world.
