Guidelines for Research Outlines and Secondary Sources

[rev 9.21.2015]
Cite secondary sources, beyond the usual websites, in your Research Outlines
[RO]. Use articles from JSTOR (scroll down Berklee site) and other reputable
places, e.g.,

tabases_for_LHUM-100
https://scholar.google.com/?hl=en
http://www.thefreelibrary.com/ [automatically give you Citations]
For secondary sources, cite simply by naming source and including links. You
might want to look at
MLA documentation http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/
http://easybib.com/
Reminders:
For RO: Maximum 1 page including,
A focused thesis that extends topics covered and makes an argument or gets us to
think of things in a fresh way.
No Plot Summaries or purely informational work.
Approximately 6 bullet points supporting your 1 FOCUSED thesis (not an essay)
2 secondary sources.
Your RO is for your talking points. You will have more to say than you have
written.
Outlines (including Verbal Presentation of your ideas) will be graded on "depth
and detail" (Go narrow and deep, not wide and shallow).
The use of first person (I) is encouraged since these RO should be an
exploration of your ideas, and not derivative.

2
Print 2 hard copies: one for you to read from and one for me. No digital copies
and do not email it to me.
Throughout semester, compile and SAVE ONE MS Word document of all your
written work with a Table of Contents [Required], listing & numbering all
assignments. You will need to post this complete Portfolio toward the end of the
semester.
Week14: turnitin will provide an Originality Report, indicating how much of
your work (including ideas, not just language) is taken from web sources.
