Both and neither
You can use both or both of us to describe things two people have in common:
We're both science-fiction fans.
Both of us are science-fiction fans.
(= I'm a science fiction fan and he's a science fiction fan.)
You can also use neither of us to describe two things people have in common. The meaning of
neither of us is already negative, so you don't use a negative verb:
Neither of us was very good at art.
(= I wasn't very good at art, and he wasn't very good at art.)
Use the singular verb form after neither of us.
