September 2015

From the Chairman

I hope you have all had a nice summer, and dare I say, looking forward to the next break Christmas!
Its almost 12 months since I and fellow Committee members took over the running of the Caledonia
Residents Association the timescale we set ourselves to see if we could make a success of it.
Hopefully we have, although we will discuss our achievements nearer the time and let you know our
collective thoughts.
In the meantime, this will be the last paper copy of The Caledonia Times unless you have specifically
told us that you dont have email/internet access. To avoid any confusion as to whether you have told
us or not, those people who have already requested a paper copy, will find a red tick () on the top of
this newsletter, next to the Neighbourhood Watch logo. No red tick () and you will need to either
complete the form below, or register your email address via the website weve tried to make it really
easy!
The Committee, via the website has received lots of comments. One burning issue at the moment is
where fellow residents dump items (usually metal) for the scrap man to collect. A few residents have
mentioned an old washing machine which was left uncollected for about a month in Grosvenor Way,
as well as a rusty 5 gallon drum in Mousehall Farm Road, which blighted the area for about a fortnight.
We all know that metal being as valuable as it is, the scrap man will gladly take it off our hands.
However, in the meantime, it causes the area to look a mess sometimes, a kin to Steptoes yard (for
those old enough to know who Steptoe is). Those with rubbish to dump should hang onto it until it can
be collected, or make alternative arrangements for collection. Should you see anybody dumping
essentially flying tipping rubbish around the estate, you are encouraged to report the matter to
Dudley Council (0300 555 2345), along with details of the person(s) responsible. Alternatively, you
can also contact us anonymously via the website and we may even name & shame.

Regards
David Adams

About 30 residents got together on Saturday, 15 August to clear the alleyways at

the rear of Winding Mill North and South, using a skip hired by the Committee. In
addition, another group cut back the bushes and weeds on the Winding Mill
South/Mousehall Farm Road car park, in order to remove camouflage for would-be
car thieves to hide in.
Refreshments were provided by the Committee and the areas worked on are now
much tidier.

Anti-climb paint : UPDATE

In a previous issue of The Caledonia Times, we
reported how we were planning to paint the tops
of the security gates at the rear of Winding Mill
North and South with anti-climb/vandal paint. This
work has been temporarily suspended, as it has
been pointed out to use that cats climbing across
the tops could bring paint into the house and
damage furniture. Rest assured, we are looking
for an alternative solution, although in the
meantime, if anybody sees somebody climbing
over the security gates, they are encouraged to
phone 999 and report a burglary in progress.

Paint and weeding of the Winding Mill North

garages is due to take place on Sunday, 20
September at 10.00am (in the event of bad
weather, Sunday 27 September has been
reserved). Volunteers are asked to meet at the
garages where all equipment (although if you
have a garden hoe, please bring it along) and
refreshments will be provided. We have also
identified other garages blocks to be painted in
the near future.

Youve Asked Us...

Check out our website which outlines the current
projects were working on, on your behalf, including a
grant to extend a car park, creating loads of new
spaces.

Due to the typical English weather, we had to

postpone to Treasure Hunt which was scheduled
for Sunday, 23 August. Its unlikely that we will be
able to arrange a suitable date this year, although
the clues will be held secure for a suitable date
next year.
We would also like to thank Sainsburys
Amblecote for donating the first prize of a 25.00
gift voucher.

In the last edition of The Caledonia Times, we

outlined complaints we had received regarding
noise from burglar alarms and barking dogs.
Further this article, we have been approached by
a number of other residents who, in light of the
recent good weather, have been desturbed by
those neighbours who have had open-air parties
late into the evening as well as those people on
their return home from a night out and need to
speak slightly louder than normal due to the
excesses of alcohol.
Please consider your neighbours who are quite
at liberty to call the police if they are being
disturbed by inconsiderate behaviour.

Litter Pick
About 20 residents came together on Saturday, 12 September to join in the litter pick.
Volunteers, including children, collected around 30 bags of rubbish, which were taken
away by Dudley council, arranged by Cllr Hanif. The Committee also strimmed the
overgrown weeds in the alley between Grosvenor Way and Thorns Road, as well as
litter picking, to make the alley more accessible.
