PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
http://alliordaz.weebly.com
Teaching young adults is not an easy task and should be approached by specific planning
and drawn out goals that are measurable. Through my years as a student I have spent time
reflecting on how teachers made me feel, certain assignments that did not cater to my needs, and
procedures- asking myself what is the environment of the classroom? And does it align with this
teachers views? Those were important questions that, now, I am asking myself as I enter the
classroom.
I want to be able to teach my students in a straight forward approach where expectations
and procedures are clear and consequences for behavior are explicit. It is very important to me to
have a syllabus for each classroom that outlines the year. There will be a rule and expectation
outline posted in the front of the classroom which is visible. I want my students to be clear on the
assignments and structure of the course; therefore being able to create planning strategies and
organizational strategies that will help when it comes to reading and writing assignments.
Student intervention will be established through two meetings. If student is not meeting the class
academically I believe it is appropriate to set a meeting with me first and discuss organization
and student needs. The second intervention would be to meet with parents and discuss further
strategies to get the student back on track.
As an English teacher I want to implement critical analysis essays and form reading
content that will allow for my students to be exposed to different writing styles and therefore be
able to expand their literary knowledge. In my classroom there are two personal objectives I
want to meet: I want my students to be challenged and I have an immense desire and hope that
my students grow. Seeing growth is what teaching is all about for me. Students should be
different on the last day of class than the first day they stepped in the classroom. Student growth
is achievable through pulling certain content, specific assignments that align with students
needs, and discussion circles with my students. I also illustrate a deep belief in implementing
projects that establish the need for group work. This creates inestimable connections between
people.
Connections that can be made between students and I help to create a healthy and safe
environment. Group work, especially in older students will help to set a deeper understanding for
assignments they might be doing in post-secondary education. Being able to develop
professional social skills and collaborate with others is a must for me as a teacher and is
something that my students need to be able to illustrate. Having open communication is a must
have in my classroom and students are to be celebrated through constructive feedback and touch
and goes, where I am able to check in with them on what they are currently working on. I also
believe in having a positive attitude and setting a positive and high energy classroom this can set
a positive pace for the classroom and get students engaged and ready to take on the day.
