Lesson 3: Practice Navigating the
Desktop

Lets practice opening and closing programs


Step 1: On the desktop, click the start button to open the menu.

Step 2: Click All Programs (or Programs) to open the programs menu. (Note:
in some versions of Microsoft, you do not have to click on the programs button,
just hover the cursor over it and it will open.)

Step 3: In the Programs menu, choose Accessories,


then click Calculator.

Step 4: The calculator appears on the desktop. Move the


mouse cursor to the title bar at the top of the calculator box.

Step 5: Hold down the left mouse button, and drag the
calculator to the right side of the desktop.

Step 6: Use your mouse and calculator to solve

Step 7: To close the calculator, click the


red Close button in the top right corner.

Step 8: On the desktop, right-click the Recycle Bin


icon. A pop-up menu opens.

Step 9: Click Open. The Recycle Bin opens and you can
see any files or folders that have been deleted.
Step 10: To close the Recycle Bin, click the red
Close button in the upper right corner.

There is a second way to open programs and files.


Step 11: On the desktop, double-click the
Recycle Bin icon. The Recycle Bin appears.

Step 12: Close the Recycle Bin.
