CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN

Classroom Management Plan

My philosophy on classroom management involves how procedures, rules, classroom
setup, and instruction affect the learning environment. Procedures are the hallmark of any wellmanaged classroom. They shape the expectations for appropriate student behavior. Classroom
procedures help establish a routine for students to settle in to. The students will know what to do
for normal circumstances, and less time will have to be taken to give instruction on what to do.
This provides more time for instruction, and fewer opportunities for mistakes in the classroom.
My classroom will have procedures that are proactive to the students educational needs and not
reactive to their distress because the expectations were unclear.
Based on the research conducted by Madeline Hunter, Dr. Harry Wong, and Dr. Richard
Lavoie, I believe that student populations should be diverse and accepting to all. I believe that all
children have the right to an education. It is in firmness and fairness that I will conduct my
classroom procedures to ensure a fun and safe learning environment for all. I am willing, and
able, to provide necessary accommodations to all students, no matter race, religion, disability, or
giftedness. I believe that diverse classrooms add a rich variety to schoolwork, and enable unique
dialogue in classroom discussions. It is my duty to make sure all students have what they need to
succeed, and I will be an advocate for my students to ensure their success.
My idea classroom is simple and inviting. It enhances learning and enables peer
interaction. Classrooms should permit freedom of movement and allow the teacher to be close to
the students. My classroom supports this theory, and incorporates my own variation of Dr. Jones
interior loop. My classroom has several walkways designed to allow teacher observation, and
minimize student movement and distraction. When movement and physical activity is necessary,
there will be enough room for students to move around. Student desks are situated so that the

students can easily work in pairs or groups with as little movement of the desks as possible. The
desks are close to the front of the room to help students keep focus on lectures, or presentations,
taking place, and the teacher desk will be at the back of the classroom because a teacher should
rarely sit at her desk.
The rules set in my classroom reflect my personal philosophy that a classroom should be
accepting to all students, and should be a fun, safe learning environment for all. The rules I have
set in place will ensure that the classroom is a safe environment, and that no students learning is
hindered by anything another student may do. The classroom rules all fulfill my beliefs on what
is appropriate, safe, and respectful in the learning environment. The rules have been narrowed
down to five specific rules that will be taught and retaught as necessary. These rules will be
posted at all times in the classroom, and students will be aware of their expected behaviors
starting on the first day of class.
My five rules are: (1) BE CONSIDERATE. Place phones on silent or off and out of
sight, unless otherwise directed by the teacher. (2) BE KIND. Keep all body parts and objects to
yourself, and use appropriate language when speaking. (3) BE SMART. Stay awake and attentive
during class. (4) BE CAUTIOUS. All fragrances, deodorants, lotions, or personal hygiene items
are to be used outside of the classroom. (5) BE SAFE. All students will remain in their assigned
seats unless instructed to move, or are dismissed, by the teacher only.
Consequences for the rules will be fair and consistent. All students will have the same
consequences for broken rules, and any student who breaks a rule will be held responsible for
their actions. Adjustments will be made to suit what is mandated by IEPs and 504s. All
consequences will follow the order of due process. The teacher may however, skip steps based
on the severity of the violation, and multiple violations will result in a more severe consequence.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN

The consequences will be posted alongside of the rules. Students will be taught, and retaught
when necessary, what the consequences will be for a violation of the rules.
Students will be celebrated though their hard work and efforts. I believe praising students
encourages work, and motivates students to do their best. I will apply the use of stickers on
assignments returned to the students. I will also have a system where students can earn stylish
school supplies through their accomplishments in the classroom. No student should feel as if
school is a burden; they should feel as though they are in a fun and safe place where they can be
creative.
I also believe that, in order to make a classroom safe, not only does it need to be
organized, but also, it needs to be a physically and emotionally safe environment. Students will
be able to come in and learn without the harassment of others. Help line phone numbers and
websites will be posted in my class, and I will have an open door policy that will enable students
to speak with me about an issue they have. I will be an advocate for students health and safety as
long as they are my responsibility.
