Purpose:
To determine the percent of abrasion of aggregate

Standard:
- ASTM

We weight sample of aggregate (5000 gm) as the

following:
We shake the sample on sieves
(19mm,12.5mm,9.5mm).
We take the retained from sample on sieve (12.5mm)
(2500 gm).
and we take from the retained sample on sieve
(9.5mm)(2500 gm).

We put the sample in Los Angeles machine and put

above the sample steel spheres (No. 11 large size 5 &
small size 6)
Turn on the machine and wait for 15 minutes.
After that we take the sample from the machine and
shake it at sieve (1.7mm)
weight the retained on the sieve.

Results:
After we shake the sample at sieve (1.7mm) we find the
sample was grinded at the machine and the percent of fine
aggregate become large.
the weight of retained at the sieve was (

In this experiment, we determine the percent of abrasion
of aggregate that determines which is the best place where
we can use the aggregate.

Source of error:
- Error in the measurement tools
- Human error
