Start on the College Prep or Honors/AP pathway in the 9th grade
Student should contact their counselor during 9th or 10th grade
This will ensure that the counselor/student can create a path to
meet NCAA Division I/II eligibility
Student needs to register with the NCAA in the 10th grade

Registration is around $75.00; fee waivers are available

Take the ACT and/or SAT in the 11th grade


Have scores sent to the NCAA code 9999
SAT Verbal/Math; no writing section necessary
(1600 scale)
ACT sum of English/Math/Reading/Science
Must also have a minimum 2.3 GPA (2.0 for Division II until
2018; 2.2 after 2018)
Send official transcript to NCAA after 11th grade year
Can now submit transcript through Naviance
Contact your counselor to submit transcript

Division I

Must graduate on time


Ten of the 16 core courses must be complete before
the start of the 12th grade year (become LOCKED in
for GPA purposes)
Once you begin 12th grade, you may not replace/
repeat any of those 10 core courses for GPA purposes

Division II

All core courses completed following start of ninth


grade and prior to full-time enrollment at a four-year
college

For college-bound student athletes enrolling full time at
an NCAA Division I school on or after August 1, 2016
there are three possible academic outcomes:

Only the 16 BEST core courses will be used for IE (initial eligibility)
certification
Must have a minimum 2.3 GPA in only those 16 NCAA approved
courses
Use sliding scale for GPA/minimum test scores (SAT/ACT)
Progression
Must complete 10 core courses before 12th grade year
Of the 10 courses completed, 7 must be in English, math, or
science
These 10 core courses become locked in for the purpose of
GPA calculation
Summer between 11th and 12th grade year okay for
make-up as long as class is completed before you start
your 12th grade year

Minimum GPA 2.00 2.299
If a student does not meet the 10 core course
requirement timeline, they are still able to receive AID
and PRACTICE; no COMPETITION
Students who fail to meet the required 10 core courses
prior to the start of the 12th grade will be allowed to
retake core courses in 12th grade to meet academic
redshirt requirements

individualized instruction,
correspondence, and courses taught by
similar means.

assume that all non-traditional courses are

You can submit your students IEP or 504 plan for special consideration
to NCAA
May use disability courses to meet core requirements
May take classes after graduation to meet core requirements
Student must still meet initial eligibility requirements.
Having an IEP or 504 plan does not waive any NCAA requirements.
Check with your COUNSELOR so they can assist you in planning your
high school path
