RE: Agency/Organization Discourse Memo

Ms. Gallardo:
As my topic choice, Ive decided to bring light upon the atrocity of a manner Rape
Culture. Rape culture is a term that was coined by feminists in the United States in the
1970s. It was designed, and what is what I want to open eyes on, how society blames the
victims of sexual assault and how much of a norm this issue has turned out to be in
everyones everyday lives.
Of the hundreds of rape crisis organizations, Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network
(RAINN) is the largest program in the United States preventing sexual assault and was
named Americas 100 Best Charities by Worth Magazine. RAINN also has many
services and programs within itself, helping victims and ensuring that rapists are brought
to justice.
RAINN works with the entertainment industry, the media, colleges and local
communities to help raise awareness about issues related to sexual assault. These services
and programs provided are intended to serve all people without regarding age,
gender/gender identity, immigration status, mental, physical/developmental disability,
national origin/ethnicity, political affiliation, race, religion, and/or sexual orientation, that
have been impacted by sexual violence. RAINNs most known and successful program is
The National Sexual Assault Hotline that has helped more than 1.5 million assault victims
since created in 1994. This hotline is a 24-hour free and confidential service that
automatically links callers with a counselor to help out in any way needed. And now
since 2007, the hotline has increased its efficiency with our worlds tech-filled lives
through its National Sexual Assault Online Hotline via instant messaging with services
offered in Spanish, if needed, or other language resources.
With the mass connections and relationships RAINN has with the entertainment industry
(television, radio and print news outlets) locally, state and nationally, they are able to
raise awareness and educate more than 120 million Americans each year about sexual
violence. Entertainers, famous stars, athletes, media networks and corporations, although
are of course a significant way to reach to the people of society, the thousands of
individuals that volunteer as RAINNMakers to help raise money to support the programs
and the RAINN Day volunteers for the thousand campuses awareness events, are
altogether equally responsible for the great achievements of the RAINN agency. Society

conveying Rape Culture as something nearly normal and not taking extreme action
because it has became such a common crime, is at-best trying to be ceased with the help
of The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network organization.

Thank you for your time.
